The Instagram Live comments trigger is an exciting way to engage with your audience in real time. This feature allows you to automatically send personalized DM replies to users who comment during your Instagram Live sessions, helping you boost interaction and keep the conversation going even after your live broadcast ends.
Whether you're promoting a product, answering questions, or building community, this tool makes it easy to turn live engagement into meaningful connections.
How to set up an Instagram Live comments trigger
You can add the Instagram Live comments trigger to an existing automation or a newly created one by clicking the + New trigger button, as illustrated in the screenshot below:
Choose the trigger from the list to add it to your automation:
When you click on the added trigger, a panel will open on the left where you can specify particular keywords that will trigger the automation when used.
Alternatively, you can select the any message or reaction option from the list if you want the automation to trigger with every use comment:
Once you have successfully set up everything, click Save, and then toggle the switch in the bottom left corner to activate it:
💡 We also suggest doing a test live session to ensure the trigger functions properly before launching your main campaign.
Known limitations
The automation will trigger only once per comment during an Instagram Live.
The initial message can only contain a text block with either a regular button or a quick reply. The user must click on it for the 24-hour window to open, allowing the rest of the messages in the automation to be sent.
The automation will not be sent after the Live ends and will not work for any saved formats of the Live recording, such as IGTV. This trigger is only functional while Instagram Live is active.
If you’re using a smart delay block in your automation, ensure that the first message is sent during the live session, as the automation will not activate once the Live has ended.
If you co-host an Instagram Live with another person, the automation will be triggered only for comments in the primary host’s account.
If commenting or requests to go live are turned off, your automation for this trigger will not fire.
