The Instagram story mention reply trigger is designed to automatically initiate a conversation in Manychat when someone mentions your Instagram account in their story.
This feature is particularly useful for engaging with users who actively mention your brand, allowing you to acknowledge their mention, send a thank-you message, offer a discount, or guide them through a customer journey. It's an effective way to build relationships, increase engagement, and leverage user-generated content for your marketing efforts.
How to set up the Instagram story mention reply trigger
In your Manychat account, navigate to Settings > Instagram > Story mention reply. From there, you can either choose to create a new automation for your story mention reply or select an existing one.
If you choose to create a new automation, you’ll be redirected to the flow builder, where you can build a custom automation specifically for this trigger:
If you choose to use an existing automation, a pop-up window will appear where you can select the desired automation for your Instagram story mention reply. You’ll also have the option to preview the automation in the same window before making your selection.

When you click on the added trigger, a panel will open on the left where you can configure everything. Let’s explore what each of these settings represents.
Here, you can choose to have the trigger activated every time a user mentions you in their stories or limit it to once every 24 hours for the same user.
You can also choose to delay the automation for a short time or start it immediately. You can also decide whether to react to user replies with "❤️" or not:
Once you have successfully set up everything and toggle the switch in the bottom left corner to activate the trigger, click “Set live” to publish the automation:

Limitations and specifics
- The Instagram story mention reply trigger will only activate if the mention begins with "@".
- This feature is available only for public accounts.
