In this article, you will learn about the main elements of the Contacts tab in your Manychat profile, as well as the functions available:
- Contact statuses
- Filters
- Segments
- Tags
- Bulk actions
- Contact profile
- Importing contacts
Studying and targeting your contacts is key to a successful campaign. The Contacts tab has eight elements that will help you manage your contacts.
- In this section, you can filter your contacts and search for a particular contact.
- The number of currently selected contacts.
- A total number of contacts.
- Apply bulk actions to selected contacts.
- Total list of contacts, including unknown and unsubscribed contacts.
💡By default, the unsubscribed and deleted contacts are hidden from the Contacts tab. To make them visible, please proceed to Settings > Display and disable the Show only subscribed contacts toggle:
- Filter presets allow you to filter your contacts quickly by segments, applied tags, opt-in widgets, a subscription to a specific sequence, or a subscription list.
- Create a new contact to send SMS and Email.
- Import a list of contacts from an existing .csv so they are available for SMS, Email, WhatsApp, or Telegram.
Understanding contact statuses
You can see the status of your contact in the Status column.
Subscribed
This status means that a contact opted in to get messages from your account. You can interact with your contacts using SMS, Email, or Messenger.
Visitor
Visitor is a special status indicating that the contact has interacted with Facebook Comments Trigger. Guests can only be contacted using the same tool they opted in through, and if they don't become subscribers, they soon disappear.
Unsubscribed
A contact receives an Unsubscribed status when they send the "stop"/"unsubscribe" keyword to your account or if you unsubscribe them manually. You can't send any messages to unsubscribed contacts, but all the data (tags, custom field values) persists.
Deleted conversation
The Deleted conversation status means a contact has blocked messages from your page. You won’t be able to message such contacts until they unblock your page.
How to filter your contacts
You can combine various filters to target and analyze your contacts better. You can choose as many conditions as you want:
How to use segments
Once you apply one or multiple filters to your contacts, you can create a segment. Once your contacts get a tag or any other filter you use in that segment, they will be automatically listed there.
You may navigate and update segments in the sidebar:
Segments allow you to save your searches, browse your contacts with a particular set of filters, and use them in conditions to send targeted automated and manual messages.
For example, you can save a segment of customers whose last interaction in Messenger was less than 24 hours ago and who don’t have a specific tag.
You can add or remove filters, use saved segments as a filter, and target your messages by segments and conditions.
What is a tag?
A tag is another way to segment your contacts. Add or remove tags to identify contacts in a specific group.
Use tags to create different content feeds. Automatically tag a contact when they click a button in the automation. Send a weekly broadcast to those tagged contacts.
Similarly, create an unsubscribe button that will remove the tag from the person and thus remove them from the broadcasting list.
Think of tags as a way to group your contacts. With tags you can gain insights into your contacts and provide highly relevant content for the people who need it the most.
How to apply a tag to a contact?
You can apply a tag to a contact either manually or automatically.
To do it manually, open the contact’s profile and press the Add Tag button:
In the drop-down menu, you can select the existing tag:
Or create a new one:
💡 It’s also possible to apply the tag to multiple contacts through bulk actions.
To apply a tag automatically, you can use the corresponding action in your automation:
How to delete a tag?
To delete a tag, hover over the tag that you want to delete and click the red bin icon.
Click Confirm in the confirmation popup.
💡 You can also manage all your tags in the Settings → Tags.
Bulk actions
Use bulk actions to save time and reduce repeating the same actions. After selecting all the contacts you want, perform any bulk actions to tag them, subscribe to a sequence, pause all automations for selected contacts, unsubscribe, or delete them from the account.
⚠️ Important: Be very careful with Unsubscribe from the account and Delete contact actions. We won’t be able to restore your contacts if you unsubscribe or delete them!
💡 It's also possible to download PSIDs (Page-scoped IDs) for the selected contacts. This can be useful for targeting these contacts later in Facebook Ads (by uploading a generated file). To do that, simply choose the option called "Export PSID." You can find more information in the article PSID explanation.
Additionally, you can transfer values from the Custom to System field. This feature is useful if you have a contact’s email or phone number saved in the Custom user field and want to save these values in the corresponding System fields.
To do so, select the Export Custom to System Field option from the dropdown. Select the necessary fields and check the other settings. Clicking the Export button will complete the process.
Contact profile
Click on any of your contacts' names to access their detailed profile.
Here, you can check the contact’s status, timezone, tags, system and custom fields, etc.
The Start Chat button provides quick access to Live Chat with this contact.
💡 Remember that depending on Live Chat settings, a conversation may be started explicitly or by any messages (except keywords). Clicking the Start Chat button in the contact’s profile opens a conversation with the contact, even if it wasn't displayed in your Live Chat before.
Importing contacts
The import features allow importing SMS, Email, WhatsApp, and Telegram contacts without first engaging with them.
⚠️ You must obtain your user’s prior consent before sending them messages. Review the following articles for detailed guidance: Import contact list: Email and SMS | Import contacts to WhatsApp channel | How to import Telegram contacts from other platforms | Create a new contact
⚠️ The Import feature is enabled manually on our end to prevent fraudulent activity. If you want an import feature enabled on your account, please submit a ticket to our support team to request approval.
⚠️ Free accounts are limited to 1,000 contacts, which include subscribed, unsubscribed, and deleted contacts. If you have a free account, you can track the number of your contacts on the left sidebar menu.
