The TikTok Ref URL trigger allows you to generate a unique link that opens a TikTok messaging automation when clicked.
This trigger provides a way to initiate TikTok conversations from other digital surfaces—such as websites, emails, or social media profiles—creating new entry points for customer interaction.
How it works
- The link opens the TikTok app (or browser fallback)
-
A preconfigured automation starts in the user’s TikTok inbox
Set up the TikTok Ref URL trigger
You can add the TikTok Ref URL trigger to a new automation or an existing one.
To add the trigger to the new automation:
- Switch to the Automation tab and click the +New Automation button.
- Once the Flow Builder opens, click the +New trigger button.
- Select the User clicks a link trigger from the list to add it to your automation.
- When you click on the added trigger, a panel opens on the left, where you can configure the trigger details.
- When someone clicks your link, they’re prompted to open the TikTok app, which launches with a prefilled message in the chat. This message is the user’s first interaction and serves as the trigger that starts your automation inside TikTok’s chat interface. You can configure this message in the trigger details panel and preview how it appears to the user on the spot.
- Once you have successfully set everything up, click Save to activate the automation.
- Lastly, click on Set Live to publish the automation.
The TikTok Ref URL trigger makes it easy to start TikTok conversations from anywhere your customers engage online. By setting up a unique link and customizing the entry message, you can guide users directly into your automation flow, creating a seamless and interactive experience.
