It’s incredibly easy to set up and integrate into your marketing strategy.
In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about the Messenger QR code trigger: what it does, how it works, and how to set it up to engage your audience effectively. Let’s get started!
How to set up the Messenger QR code trigger
You can add the Messenger QR code trigger to an existing automation or a newly created one by clicking the + New trigger button.
Once the pop-up window appears, choose the trigger from the list to add it to your automation.
When you click on the added trigger, a panel will open on the left where you can configure everything. Let’s explore what each of these sections represents.
First, click the editing icon next to the trigger's name to rename it. This allows you to make the trigger more specific and distinguishable, ensuring better organization of your automations.
Next, you can adjust the size of the QR code image you’ll download after setting it up, with options ranging from 100 to 2000 pixels. This flexibility ensures the QR code is suitable for various use cases, whether you’re printing it on small business cards or large banners.
Ensuring the size is appropriate for its intended purpose helps maintain the scannability and quality of the QR code, providing a seamless user experience.
The Logo option lets you add your brand’s logo to the center of the QR code, making it visually distinctive and reinforcing your brand identity.
Below this, the Remove background behind logo toggle allows you to eliminate the background around the logo, ensuring it stands out clearly without affecting the QR code’s functionality. This customization enhances both the appearance and the professionalism of your QR code.
The Colors setting allows you to customize the foreground and background colors of your QR code. Using the color palette, you can select the colors that best match your brand’s identity or the design of the material where the QR code will be displayed.
This feature ensures your QR code is both functional and visually aligned with your overall branding.
Once all settings are configured, you’ll see the final appearance of your QR code displayed at the bottom of the settings tab.
Here, you can download the QR code image to use in your marketing or business materials, such as flyers, packaging, or digital campaigns.
At the very bottom, you’ll find the Activate button, which enables the trigger. Activating the QR code ensures it’s ready to connect users to your automation when scanned, making it fully functional for your audience.
After the trigger is successfully activated, you’ll notice a green toggle indicating it’s turned on, along with a greyed-out Saved button, confirming that all your settings have been saved.
With these settings and options, you now have everything you need to configure the Messenger QR code trigger. Start exploring its potential and make the most of this versatile feature!
Limitations and troubleshooting
Even with its versatility, the Messenger QR Code trigger may have certain restrictions or occasional issues. This section highlights important points to keep in mind and offers solutions to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Limitations
- New contacts must click the Get Started button in Messenger before they can receive the corresponding automation connected to the QR code trigger.
- If you change the QR code after printing its earlier version on your product, the original QR code will be permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
This means that any previously printed QR codes will no longer function, and users scanning them will not be directed to the intended automation. To avoid this, ensure your QR code is finalized before printing it on physical materials.
Troubleshooting
- If the Get Started button doesn’t appear in Messenger
First, refresh permissions of your Manychat account through the Help button as outlined in this article. Next, navigate to the automation where the Messenger QR code trigger is added, deactivate the trigger, and then reactivate it by toggling it off and on.
⚠️ Note: Ensure these actions are performed by a team member who is either the owner or an admin with full control over the Facebook business page connected to the Manychat account.
This process will restore the connection between Manychat and Facebook, after which the Get Started button should appear.
- If the automation connected to the Messenger QR code is not triggered
Start by refreshing permissions, as outlined earlier, and ensure you follow the steps and requirements mentioned above.
Next, confirm that the automation linked to the QR code trigger is published. Look for a small yellow dot next to the automation title, which indicates there are unpublished changes that need to be addressed.
After confirming this, ensure that the QR code itself has not been altered or compromised.
First, avoid applying any color filters or photo effects to the QR code image in photo editing software. Such modifications can impact the contrast and clarity needed for devices to scan it effectively, leading to errors or failures in recognizing the code. Maintaining the original appearance of the QR code is essential for it to function properly.
Additionally, check the printed version of the QR code on materials like pamphlets or business cards. Ensure that it is free from smudges, scratches, or any other physical damage that could distort the code. Even slight imperfections in the printed version can make it unreadable, preventing users from triggering the respective automation.
If everything is correctly configured, check the Handover Protocol setup. The most common reason Messenger automation isn’t sent is that Manychat does not have ownership of the conversation on Facebook.
To ensure Manychat can deliver messages accurately, the Handover Protocol must be set up as detailed in this article.
By thoroughly examining these aspects, you can eliminate potential issues and ensure the QR code works seamlessly for your audience.
